The 78th Emmy Awards ceremony will broadcast on Monday, commencing at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, and will be held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. NBC is the network for this year's telecast, with live streaming available on Peacock's premium plan. The shift to a Monday broadcast is attributed to NBC's scheduling of "Sunday Night Football," a common occurrence for the network in previous years when airing the Emmys.

Eligibility for this year's awards requires shows to have aired between June 2025 and May 2026 and feature a U.S. production partner. Nineteen awards are slated for the main ceremony, following over 100 technical awards presented the previous weekend, where "Widow's Bay" secured the most wins with eight.

Mariska Hargitay, celebrated as "the year of Mariska!" by an NBC executive, will host the event. Hargitay's recent visibility includes producing an Emmy-winning documentary, a Broadway debut, a viral social media moment, and her return to "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." The ceremony will feature a tribute to Dolly Parton and celebrations for "Charlie's Angels" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," with Michael J. Fox receiving the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.

This year's Emmys introduce a notable change as five awards, including categories for limited series writing and directing, were moved to the preceding weekend's technical ceremonies. This decision, aimed at adding 16-17 minutes to the prime-time broadcast, has faced criticism from various industry professionals. Despite the controversy, the Television Academy describes it as a "fresh new take."
