The Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) is marking its 50th anniversary with a grand celebration from April 1 to April 12. Anthony Chen's "We Are All Strangers" is set to open the prestigious event, having recently premiered at the Berlin film festival. Philip Yung's "Cyclone," which explores themes of transgender identity, will serve as the closing film.
The festival's 50th edition will present a rich tapestry of cinema, showcasing 215 films sourced from 71 countries and regions. This curated selection includes 11 world premieres, 49 Asian premieres, and a special focus on filmmaker Jia Zhangke. Attendees can also anticipate appearances from acclaimed directors and actors.
To commemorate its golden jubilee, HKIFF will host "In the Mood For Love - In Concert" with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, offering a unique live rendition of the classic film's score. Additionally, a free exhibition, "50 and Beyond: The Hong Kong International Film Festival Golden Jubilee Exhibition," will be held at Hong Kong City Hall, featuring archival materials and filmmaker recollections.
