49-Year-Old Musician Channing Wilson Fights for Last Chance at Stardom

In October 2025, 49-year-old musician Channing Wilson is competing on the CBS series 'The Road' for a chance to win a $250,000 record deal. The show follows 12 emerging artists as they vie to become the opening act for Keith Urban's tour across America.

During a recent episode, Urban and fellow judge Blake Shelton express their admiration for Wilson's performance. Urban notes that Wilson's original song "played to every part of his voice," while Shelton declares him a "country legend we already know somehow."

Wilson, who hails from Lafayette, Georgia, has been pursuing his music career for over 25 years. In 1999, he was inspired to quit his job and focus on songwriting and performing after seeing a show by country legend Billy Joe Shaver. Despite facing numerous rejections, Wilson has continued to grind, writing hits like Luke Combs' "She Got the Best of Me."

Now at 49 years old, Wilson sees 'The Road' as his "last chance" to make it big in the music industry. As he says, "The music business is definitely not a joke. I have been told no way more than I have had a phone ring in my hand. I am the oldest on the show. This is my last chance. What is at stake? Everything."
