Southwest Virginia's 49 Winchester is set to release their sixth studio album, "Change of Plans," on MCA's Lucille Records imprint in partnership with New West Records. Produced by Dave Cobb, the album marks a significant shift from their previous work, exploring themes of personal upheaval and newfound love, as articulated by frontman Isaac Gibson.
The title track, "Bluebird," inspired by Gibson's experiences, encapsulates the album's overarching theme of life-altering changes. "Change of Plans" also features "The Window," a raw depiction of life in an Appalachian coal town, reflecting the band's commitment to their roots.
Formed in Castlewood, Virginia, in 2013, 49 Winchester has evolved from playing regional gigs to being recognized in the national country music conversation. The band, nominated for Group of the Year at the ACM Awards, is known for blending folk, soul, and country.
With five of the six members still residing in Virginia, the band aims to be torchbearers for music from their region, similar to how Tyler Childers represents eastern Kentucky. They recently recorded the album in Savannah, Georgia, to escape the distractions of Nashville.
The album includes a cover of Black Sabbath's "Changes," a nod to the band's early heavy metal influences. 49 Winchester will open for Tim McGraw on his Pawn Shop Guitar Tour for the remainder of the year, continuing their ascent in the music industry.
