In a remarkable display of courage during the December 1971 war, 300 women from Madhapur village in Kutch risked their lives to repair a bombed Indian Air Force airstrip in Bhuj. Their incredible effort saw the damaged airstrip rebuilt within an astonishing 72 hours.
This extraordinary feat of national defense by rural women has been recently dramatized in a short play titled 'Virangana 1971'. Presented by the Triveni Theatre Group from Vadodara, the production secured second prize at THESPIS, the National Micro Drama Festival, organized by the National School of Drama.
The festival itself is a unique platform for micro-drama, with each play limited to a 10-minute duration. This season showcased 30 micro-plays performed in a single day, challenging theatre artists to deliver powerful and emotionally resonant performances within a compact format.
