Shipwreck artefacts dating back to 1680 have been donated to the Isles of Scilly Museum. These significant items originate from a vessel identified as The Phoenix. Diver and author Todd Stevens made the donation after discovering the wreck site off the coast of Samson in 2017.
Stevens' discovery followed years of dedicated historical research and underwater exploration. The recovered materials are of exceptional quality and include a variety of historical objects. Among the treasures are coins, navigational instruments, sword fragments, and jewellery.
These artefacts are believed to have belonged to the ship's captain and his crew. Museum curator Xavier Duffy expressed his astonishment at the condition of the finds. He highlighted that it is difficult to believe these objects have remained on the seabed for approximately 350 years.
