This summer, South Yorkshire will be transformed by the 'Pride of Yorkshire' art trail, featuring 150 magnificent life-sized lion sculptures. These artistic creations will be installed in various locations across Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley, and Rotherham, commencing on June 8th.
The trail is a significant celebration marking the 150th anniversary of the renowned Sheffield Children's Hospital. Each of the 150 lion sculptures has been uniquely designed by talented British artists, promising a vibrant and engaging experience for visitors.
In addition to the large sculptures, 150 smaller 'cubs' have been created by schools and community groups. These will be displayed at prominent landmarks throughout the region, including Meadowhall and Doncaster Racecourse.
The initiative is organized by the Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity, with the ambitious goal of raising £2.8 million. These funds are earmarked for a substantial £20 million transformation project for the hospital's emergency department.
This event follows the success of the charity's previous art trails, 'Bears of Sheffield' and 'Herd of Sheffield'. For the first time, the trail extends to Barnsley, Doncaster, and Rotherham, broadening its reach and impact.
Visitors can navigate the trail using a dedicated website and a printed map, which will help them track sculptures and unlock rewards. The charity hopes the lions will bring joy and creativity while generating crucial support for the hospital's future.
