A singer-songwriter has created an album inspired by a significant pilgrimage across north-east England. Gareth Davies-Jones, residing in Newcastle, embarked on a two-week journey covering more than 140 miles in June.
His walk traversed ancient routes, St Oswald's Way and the Way of the Light, from Holy Island in Northumberland to Durham Cathedral. Davies-Jones aimed to translate the region's essence into music, stating that walking it provided the best way to truly know it.
During his travels, he composed music, held impromptu concerts, and found that sharing his journey invited others to share theirs. These interactions, including a conversation with a National Trust ranger, added a cathartic dimension to his experience.
The resulting album, titled "A Troubadour Journey: Lindisfarne to Durham," is scheduled for release next week. Davies-Jones plans to tour the album in various locations that influenced its creation.
