Netflix Reboots 13 Going on 30 With New Stars

Netflix is bringing back the iconic early-aughts romantic comedy "13 Going on 30" with a contemporary reboot. The new film will star Emily Bader as Jenna Rink and Logan Lerman as Matt Flamhaff, roles originally played by Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, respectively. Garner herself is involved in the new production, taking on a role as an executive producer.

The original 2004 movie centered on Jenna Rink, a 13-year-old who inexplicably transforms into her 30-year-old self, played by Garner. She then reconnects with her childhood best friend, Matt Flamhaff, and learns to navigate her newfound adult life while often dressed in memorable fashion.

Costume designer Susie DeSanto, who worked on the original film, provided insights into the iconic outfits worn by Garner's character. She highlighted key pieces like the Versace babydoll dress and the Fendi baguette bag, both of which have significantly influenced fashion trends since the movie's release. DeSanto also discussed other memorable looks, including the pink godet skirt ensemble and the rose-pink cardigan set, emphasizing the feminine and colorful aesthetic of early 2000s fashion.

The original film's wedding dress, an Angel Sanchez creation, was a last-minute change that significantly enhanced the character's hopeful portrayal. DeSanto recalled that an initial trampoline scene involved a different dress, but Garner advocated for a more fitting choice, leading to the elegant A-line gown and accessories that became a standout moment. Fendi has also revived its popular baguette bag style in 2024, reflecting the enduring appeal of the era's fashion.
