At Gamescom 2026, '1001 Threads of Mizan' captivated attendees as a debut title from the newly formed MBC Game Studio. This fantasy adventure game is the first project from MBC Group's initiative to build a trans-media universe based on its interpretation of 1001 Arabian Nights. The game's debut trailer garnered close to 70 million views within its first week, and a 20-minute demo led to three-hour queues at the convention.
Developed by MBC Game Studio, owned by MBC Group, '1001 Threads of Mizan' is a three-player co-op experience. It reimagines traditional Arabic folktales, focusing on a battle against corrupted supernatural beings threatening the mortal world. This project began scaling its team in 2023, with conceptualization prior, aiming to create new IP rather than license existing content.
MBC Group CEO Mike Sneesby highlighted gaming's global language as a key reason for this venture, allowing Arab world-rooted stories to transcend cultural and linguistic barriers. The studio delved deep into the original manuscripts of 1001 Nights, incorporating academics and historians to ensure an authentic representation of this rich mythology.
The ambition for '1001 Threads of Mizan' extends beyond the video game, with Upper Deck trading cards and a Titan Publishing storybook released alongside the game's unveiling. MBC Game Studio CEO Daniel Engelhardt sees the game as an "IP engine" for MBC, with potential future film and TV derivatives. The game is slated for launch in early 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
