More than 1,000 years of British history will be showcased through reenactments at Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome. The event, occurring on Saturday and Sunday, will cover historical periods from the 10th Century up to World War One. This significant aerodrome, established in 1916, played a vital role in defending London from Zeppelin attacks during WWI. Historians consider it the largest surviving World War One aerodrome worldwide.
The festivities begin with displays from the Anglo-Saxon and Viking eras. The event will then progress through time, featuring reenactments of 1181's Assize of Arms and events aboard the HMS Active in 1869. Attendees can expect weapon exhibitions and historical talks. A unique debate on votes for women will also be reenacted, inviting visitor participation. Chief executive Ian Flint highlighted living history as an excellent educational method.
